Volkswagen Beetle

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle has finally been scooped up playing out on the streets. Although this particular model was designed to look like the current model, there are a number of features on this car that hint that this could very well be a new and sportier Beetle.

The folks at Volkswagen have made it no secret that the new Beetle will come with a ?radical design? that will far exceed all of our expectations. Whether that actually happens is still subjective and remains to be seen. Either way, the new Beetle, which will share its platform with the new Volkswagen Jetta, will attract its fair share of attention because, well, it?s the Beetle.

The new Beetle will also come with a number of engine options including a 1.2-liter 105 bhp, a 1.4-liter 160 bhp, and a 2.0 210 bhp. Diesel engines will also be available in the form of a 1.6 105 bhp and a 2.0 TDI 140 bhp.

Regardless of when we see Volkswagen?s latest take on their most popular model - there’s talk that a concept version may be previewed at the LA Motor Show - this first photo of the 2012 Beetle does give us an idea of what to expect. At the very least, we?re looking at a far edgier and more aggressive-looking Beetle than what we?ve seen in the past.

UPDATE 04/05/2011: On April 18, 2011, Volkswagen will unveil the new generation Beetle in Shanghai with MTV?s VJ guest hosting an exclusive MTV Sound System. This event will be followed by World Stage events in New York and Berlin. According to the first details on the car, the new generation Beetle will reinterpret design elements from "the famous Volkswagen Beetle and combines stylistic elements borrowed from the original with the latest technology. This guarantees Beetle drivers a lot of driving fun and individuality."
